Preview: Changing and Unchanging Things

  • Asian Art Museum 200 Larkin Street San Francisco, CA, 94102 United States (map)

Special Salon Event and Preview at the San Francisco Asian Art Museum.

An afternoon salon event at the San Francisco Asian Art Museum featuring a preview of Hiroya Miura's new micro opera Sharaku Unframed, and the premiere of Karen Tanaka's new trio for flute, viola, and harp. Miura's micro opera is inspired by mysterious 18th Century woodblock artist Toshusai Sharaku, while Tanaka's trio is inspired by the Museum's current exhibit, Changing and Unchanging Things, about Noguchi and Hasegaway in Post-War Japan. Historian Beth Berry leads a discussion with both composers about their subjects, as well as the intersection between Western and Japanese classical musics.
